Frequently Asked Questions
Library Membership
How do I sign up at the library? What documents are required?
Fill in our online registration form to get your temporary library membership number.
Before your temporary membership expires, you’ll need to visit your nearest library branch to pick up your new library card and check your details are correct.
You need to bring with you:
- Photo ID (e.g. passport, driver’s licence, ID card)
- A document confirming your home address (eg. power bill or bank statement)
View more about this on our Join the Library page.
I would like to have my whole family signed up - How does this work?
You operate as a user group. This is when a family would like separate cards but one parent or guardian has access to all the accounts in the family group. This person will receive notices and updates from all the accounts and is responsible for them.
Please ask staff about this option.
I am a member of Thames Coromandel / Western Bay of Plenty / Matamata Piako Libraries. May I return these books to the three Hauraki District Libraries?
Even though you can be a member of our neighbouring district libraries for free, you cannot return their items to us as we do not have a shared courier service.
I received a message asking me to update my details but I cannot see how to do this online?
You cannot update all your details online.
You can only change your Passcode online but not on the mobile App.
Please visit, contact the libraries via phone or email for assistance: hdc-library@hauraki-dc.govt.nz.
What do I do if I have lost my library card?
Please visit the library and a staff member will sell you a new one. The cost for a replacement card can be found on our Fees and Charges page.
I cannot find my library card. May I take books out on someone else’s card?
We strongly advise against this but allow it with written or verbal permission from the owner of the card. This will be noted on our computer system.
May I take items out if I don’t have my library card?
No. However, staff will accept a form of ID and still issue items. Staff may encourage you to buy a new card if it is lost.
