All Hauraki Libraries will be CLOSED from 12 noon Tuesday 24 December 2024, reopening with normal hours from 6 January 2025. All our digital offerings including eBooks, eAudiobooks, ePress (eMagazines and eNewspapers) will be available during our close down period.

Library Membership

Fill in our online registration form to get your temporary library membership number.

Before your temporary membership expires, you’ll need to visit your nearest library branch to pick up your new library card and check your details are correct.

You need to bring with you:

  1. Photo ID (e.g. passport, driver’s licence, ID card)
  2. A document confirming your home address (eg. power bill or bank statement)

You operate as a user group. This is when a family would like separate cards but one parent or guardian has access to all the accounts in the family group. This person will receive notices and updates from all the accounts and is responsible for them.

Please ask staff about this option.

Even though you can be a member of our neighbouring district libraries for free, you cannot return their items to us as we do not have a shared courier service.

You cannot update all your details online.

You can only change your Passcode online but not on the mobile App.

Please visit the library and a staff member will sell you a new one. The cost for a replacement card can be found on our Fees and Charges page.

We strongly advise against this but allow it with written or verbal permission from the owner of the card. This will be noted on our computer system.

No. However, staff will accept a form of ID and still issue items. Staff may encourage you to buy a new card if it is lost.

Library Services

Customers may take as many items as they wish to be responsible for, except for DVDs where the limit is four.

You are able to renew an item twice unless there is a hold on it for another customer.

You are able to place holds online through your account or on our mobile App. Choose the item you want and select the Reserve option.

We are also able to provide this service in the libraries at the counter.

There is no charge for this service.

Fill out our online Suggestion for Purchase form or visit a library and ask for the purchase request form. Requests are passed on to the Senior Librarian – Technical and Collections for consideration.

Please note not all requests can be purchased.

Provide as many details as you can, including the title, author, publisher and any other details requested on the Interloan form.

Staff will check the availability. We will contact you if further details are needed or if the request has been denied. We will contact you when the item arrives.

The charge, which covers the courier costs, can be found on our Fees and Charges page.

The item will be issued for 3 weeks. If you need it for longer, you must let us know at least 4 days before it is due, so we can check with the lending library.

Yes we do!

The housebound service is a free delivery service available for users who are unable to visit our libraries, either on a permanent or temporary basis, because of illness or infirmity and who have no other person readily available to come to the library to select their materials.

Please contact the Library and a staff member will discuss the options around the loss or assess the damaged item. There will be charges.

The use of our Meeting Rooms are free of charge if it is for a community group or non-profit organisation. Otherwise a fee applies. View our Fees and Charges.

Up to 12 people can fit in and the rooms are wheelchair accessible.

Bookings are required.

Yes. However, there are limits under the Copyright Act 1994. Staff will guide you.

Up to four DVDs may be issued at one time and are issued for two weeks. They are available to browse through at Waihī Library but can be requested for the other two libraries.
